Simon Lanngren’s internship journey at Algorithma

This fall, Simon Lanngren joined Algorithma as a management consultant intern. We’re thrilled to welcome him back this spring for his master’s thesis and even more excited for him to officially join our team as a full-time employee next fall. Currently pursuing a master’s in Data Science and AI at Chalmers University, Simon brings a unique mix of academic excellence and professional insight. Below, he shares reflections on his time at Algorithma and his future ambitions.

Experience, learning, and contribution

Simon’s initial expectations for his internship were to bridge his prior industry experience in business strategy and consulting with his academic studies in data science and AI. Reflecting on his time at Algorithma, Simon shares:

“My experience exceeded these expectations, as I was constantly learning from industry-leading colleagues. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of both machine learning and AI technologies, along with hands-on experience in applying strategic advisory skills to technology and AI-focused projects.”

Working in a dynamic startup consulting environment allowed Simon to develop essential skills. He reflects:

“From day one, I was trusted to take ownership and make meaningful contributions. In client projects, my input was genuinely valued, and I could see how my work directly influenced outcomes. The short decision-making processes and the opportunity to impact the company’s culture and direction within a small, dynamic team have been among the most rewarding aspects of this experience.”

Among the various projects Simon contributed to, one stood out:

“Helping shape and frame Algorithma’s offerings, including the development of a product intended to become a key part of the company’s portfolio, was particularly meaningful. It involved identifying areas where Algorithma’s strengths align with market needs and translating those into tangible solutions.”

Team and culture

Simon describes Algorithma’s organizational culture as open and collaborative:

“At Algorithma, open communication and collaboration define the culture, with approachable colleagues and management valuing every voice. The startup mindset is clearly evident, and from day one, you’re entrusted with responsibility, fostering ownership and purpose.”

Working from the Gothenburg office, Simon feels he has gained valuable insights into the importance of collaboration between data scientists and management consultants, as well as the immense potential for learning from one another:

“The overlap between the roles of data scientist and management consultant at Algorithma is significant. Aligning the technical expertise of a data scientist with the strategic perspective of a management consultant is essential for delivering real value to clients.”

Growth and future plans

Inspired by the team’s expertise and innovative projects, Simon chose Algorithma as the partner for his master’s thesis, focusing on conformal predictive decision-making:

“I’m particularly excited about combining cutting-edge research with real-world challenges. My thesis will contribute directly to Algorithma’s work, providing value both academically and professionally.”

Simon shares his excitement about returning next fall:

“I’m looking forward to bringing fresh perspectives gained from my thesis work, continuing to contribute to Algorithma’s innovative projects, and supporting the company’s growth and position as the go-to choice for AI consulting in the Nordic region.”

Advice and reflections

Simon’s guidance for future interns at Algorithma is simple:

“Be curious, stay open-minded, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or challenge ideas. Your knowledge and input are valued, and fresh perspectives are essential for driving Algorithma’s growth.”

When asked about the highlight of his internship, Simon concludes:

“The best part of this internship was the opportunity to work in a dynamic, inspiring environment where my contributions were genuinely valued. Collaborating with talented colleagues, learning something new every day, and being able to shape the company’s culture and direction made this experience both meaningful and rewarding.”

We are proud of Simon’s contributions and excited to support him as he begins his master’s thesis with Algorithma. With his passion for combining research and real-world applications, Simon is sure to make a lasting impact, and we look forward to welcoming him back as a full-time employee after his graduation in the fall of 2025. 🌟
